Where it usually goes wrong
Rarely the design itself. It's in things you don't notice if you have a mouse and good eyesight.
- Buttons you can't reach with a keyboard
- Grey text on a light background, so you can't read it in sunlight
- Headings that are just made bigger, not marked as headings
- Error messages that are just a red border, with no explanation
- Images with no description, or worse, with "image123.jpg"
- Moving elements that can't be stopped

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to make my website accessible by law?
Government organisations and semi-public institutions are required to. For businesses it's not law yet, but the European Directive is coming and it affects online shops.
What's WCAG level AA?
That's the standard referenced in the Netherlands. It covers contrast, keyboard operation and clear error messages. We build to that level by default.
Can you issue a statement?
We provide everything needed for that. But a formal audit by an independent party should happen, because that's what independent means.
Will my site look uglier?
No. Good contrast and clear structure usually make an accessible website calmer. What does go is very light grey, because it's just not readable.
How long does an audit take?
A few days for an average business site. For a large portal, we agree on which routes we'll check first so it stays manageable.
